Cyber Bullying

What exactly is cyber bullying?: cyber bullying is basically bullying someone over the internet.
How can cyber bullying be avoided?: Well, the best way to avoid cyber bullying is not not bully someone over the internet at all. If you are being bullied, just ignore the person and tell an adult.

If you are in the situation about to be presented, IGNORE AND TELL AN ADULT!!!!

Bully Boy: heyyy
Innocent Prey: who is this?
Bully Boy: YOUR WORST NIGHTMARE!
Innocent Prey: This is Jessica Smith, really who is this??
Bully Boy: I already know who you are, Jessica.
Innocent Prey: That's creepy! I don't like you!
Bully Boy: Why would say that?! YOU ARE SO STUPID! You never get good grades in school!
Innocent Prey: YES I DO! I AM A GOOD STUDENT! I GO TO THE BUFFALO SEMINARY THEREFORE, I AM SMART!
Bully Boy: You are so stupid...go read a book!
Innocent Prey: why are you so mean?!
(at this point, she should of ingorned Bully Boy and he would have gotton sick of her and found someone else to bully who responds to him. However, Innocent Prey does not do so.)
Bully Boy: I am mean, it is what i do! Unlike you, you cannot even get a good grade!
Innocent Prey: How do you know who I am?
Bully Boy: I'm not telling you, you are too stupid!
(Innocent Prey signs off and goes and cries...does not tell an reponsable adult. Bully Boy continues to bully Jessica for the rest of the year because she never got him in trouble.)

In this situation, Innocent Prey did many wrong things. She told Bully Boy her full name, gender, and school. Do not trust anyone online with you personal information. Another thing she did wrong is that she kept talking to him after he was mean. She should have signed off right away. By responding to Bully Boy, Innocent Prey was luering him in to her. He probably thinks it is fun to bully people who keep answering him. Tell an adult about what happened so they can handle the situation for you. If someone keeps bothering you, you should report them so they get in trouble for what they said to you. Also, print out whatever proof you have of the conversation that the person was bullying you in.

This is how a victim of cyber bullying should handle the situation:

Bully Boy: Hello.
Innocent Prey: WHO IS THIS??!?!?!??!
Bully Boy: Your worst nightmare.
(Innocent Prey signs off and immediatly tells her parents about the situation, who call the police and track down the silly little boy...aka a 45 year old man.)

This is why you should ignore cyber bullies...because they could not be who they say they are. In the first conversation, little Jessica Smith, in the 8th grade, gave out her full information to Bully Boy, thinking they were the same age. Little did she know, Bully Boy was a 45 year old man. She was lucky he didn't stalk her. She should have told her parents right away, considering she was in danger. In the second conversation, Innocent Prey handles the situation the correct way. She gave out no information and signed off right away, without making the Bully mad. Then she told her parents who tracked down the man with the police who put him in jail.

(parents looking at conversation. GOOD!)

IF YOU HAVE SOMETHING MEAN TO SAY, DON'T SAY IT!!!!!!!!!

whatever you say to people that is harmfull could cause depression, suiside and the lowering of self-esteem.
Although you can not see the person's reaction over the internet, they may be getting their feelings hurt without you even knowing.

that is how your Instant Message conversation should go. Have friendly chats with people you know and do not give out personal information to anyone that you do not know.

Think about it: if you cyber bully someone over the internet, you will most probably lose your trust over the internet by your teachers and family members. do you want that to happen? NO!!! Therefore, just dont be a bully over the internet at all. :)
